Antique Victorian Gutta Percha Angel Cameo Motif MOURNING LOCKET PENDANT Ribbon

Antique Victorian angel motif cameo mourning locket pendant necklace. Unsigned. Mid to late 1800s. Photo inside locket is not as old, circa 1900. Locket tests positive as gutta percha. Scent of rubber is released when locket rubbed vigorously with finger. Oval locket with 3/4 profile of woman with wing over left shoulder in high relief. Cameo is attached to lid with two metal rivets. Hinged, compression fit lid is snug. Although lid shuts securely, there is tiny space between top/bottom edges when locket is shut due to slight warping of one of the lids over time. Lid opens at right side center to reveal single compartment for photo with original sepia tone photograph of woman held in position with gold filled lift-out rim insert. Opposite compartment has etched floral design. No chips/cracks. Very good condition. Locket suspended from 3/8" wide black grosgrain ribbon, tied at back neck. Very nice piece.
