    Description

    Listed for sale is a large brass rolling ruler ( also called a parallel rule by some people). This ruler was used in the maritime navigation & engineering trades. It measures 18" long by 2 3/8" wide. It has a makers mark 'U.W.W. MAKERS BIRMINGHAM'. UWW was the company Universal Wood Working Co., of Newhall Hill registered as early as 1895 but then just wood turners. Later the Company moved to George Street in 1938. The factory was labelled ‘Joinery Works’ on the map, and produced handles, police truncheons and drawing and writing instruments including compass’, rulers and squares. The ruler is in very good condition with no chips nor dents. Some spotting on the finish from age. Weighs approx 3 pounds.
