    Description

I am selling a collection of antique chatelaine and jewelry items as seen in the last photo so please see my other offerings and check back!
    ABOUT:
Old and beautiful 1800s Victorian Mourning or love locket pendant in the form of a book with enameled blue buckle on the front.  It opens to reveal two oval frames inside, one with a glass pane, to tuck a photo on one side, and a lock of hair or pressed flower on the other. The back cover of the "book" is engraved with a floral design and a cartouche that is not monogrammed.
In Victorian times, the belt/buckle served as a memorial piece or love token.  It represented eternity, fidelity/loyalty, strength and protection. As the symbol curves around and threads back into itself, creating an eternal loop, it represents unbreakable strength of upholding loyalty and love or memory forever.
    Chain not included.
    MARKS:
No hallmarks, antique Gold filled item.
    MEASUREMENTS:
The book pendant measures 3/4 of an inch by 5/8.
    CONDITION:
All my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition.  Some loss to the blue enamel in the upper right quarter of the oval buckle image.
The book locket has tension to remain closed but no clasp to snap or latch shut.  However, it does not come open when worn, it just holds itself closed with that tension.
There are some bends to the gold "book covers" so they have a slightly rippled appearance.  One side is missing the glass pane.  The other has it.
Still functioning piece though.  The hinge is still tight and it opens nicely and remains closed.   There are a few spots of discoloration from age to the gold fill loop.  Some surface wear, scuffs, scratches so due to age, please note this is not a mint condition item.
Still many years left in this old beauty from an interesting period in history.
I dearly love, collect, use and sell antiques so please check out my other listings and thanks so much for stopping by my store!
